Helping the community recover after enduring the worst floods in Australia’s history.
The recent floods in the Northern Rivers have damaged and destroyed more than 5,000 homes and businesses. Lives have been lost and thousands of people are displaced, living in temporary accommodation and makeshift tents.
There are stories of the elderly, pregnant woman, people with disabilities and mothers with tiny babies trapped for days before being rescued. In the first week after the floods the region experienced power outages, water restrictions while treatment plants were being fixed, as well as food and fuel shortages. Roads, infrastructure, and schools were destroyed.
Northern Rivers communities have endured the ravages of one of the worst floods in our country’s history. Amidst the trauma and tragedy, there has been an incredible outpouring of selflessness and unity as people in the community came together spontaneously to help with rescue operations, set up temporary recovery centres, clean up people’s houses and businesses. So many people have volunteered their time, skills and big hearts and continue to do so to help with the ongoing recovery.
A Sound Life is continuing to do what we do best. We are partnering with incredible local organisations as well as funding needed supplies, skilled flood recovery workers and offering direct relief to affected individuals. We are utilising A Sound Life’s administrative infrastructure and our experience at managing and delivering wellbeing projects to do our bit to help make sure people have access to life’s most basic human needs as well as the mental and physical support needed to recover.
Our amazing on the ground volunteer flood relief team is made up of four Northern Rivers locals and business leaders: Doron Milner (Head of SEO Local Web), Gavin Dubb (Soulfresh Group ), Jonni Pollard (Co-founder / Director, 1 Giant Mind) and Edo Kahn (ASL Co-founder/Director).
As difficult as the situation is in the Northern Rivers, we are so inspired by the unshaken resolve and the spirit of the people in this region. Together we can help them rise, renew and rebuild.
We will continue to update this page with the progress on funds raised and the impact of the direct relief work. Thank you for your support.
