Northern Rivers Flood Relief

Helping the community recover after enduring the worst floods in Australia’s history.

The recent floods in the Northern Rivers have damaged and destroyed more than 5,000 homes and businesses. Lives have been lost and thousands of people are displaced, living in temporary accommodation and makeshift tents.

Northern Rivers communities have endured the ravages of one of the worst floods in our country’s history. Amidst the trauma and tragedy, there has been an incredible outpouring of selflessness and unity as people in the community came together spontaneously to help with rescue operations, set up temporary recovery centres, clean up people’s houses and businesses. So many people have volunteered their time, skills and big hearts and continue to do so to help with the ongoing recovery.

Thanks to your amazing support ASL raised $70,900.42 directly to help the Northern Rivers Flood recovery and we were also able to utilise ASL’s charity status to help Northern Rivers Flood Recovery raise $172,564.96.

So far, this has enabled us to help offer relief by offering financial support to the following causes:

 

Community hubs: These are all grassroots organisations, many of which were organically created to serve the community, create support networks and offer critical relief and disaster mitigation. 

 

Lismore Hub – Koori Mail

  • Tradesmen wages
  • Building supplies & trade coordination to make homes liveable
  • Funding hub operations and staffing

 

Broadwater Hub – Broadwater & Riley’s Hill  Area Community Hall

  • Funding community happy hour (wound clean up, community connection, information dissemination, hot meals and services hub).
  • Coordination & supply of building materials to make homes liveable.
  • Funding Specialist services – mould remediation, re-building for flood resilience etc.
  • Supporting hub operation x 3 days per week
  • Community super market & cooked meals
  • Counselling & mental health support

 

Murwillumbah Hub – Hub 2484

  • Funding hub operations
  • Gift cards for volunteers to help them pay for fuel and other expenses as they offer their time

 

Mullumbimby Hub – Koori Mail

  • Funding hub operations and staffing
  • Funding support and recovery of isolated communities such as Wilson’s Creek, Huonbrook, Main Arm and Wanganui. 

 

Woodburn Hub – Mid Richmond Neighbourhood Centre

  • Funding hub operations and staffing
  • Purchase of supplies for community needs
  • Building supplies & trade coordination to make homes liveable
  • Mental health & trauma support

 

Wardell Hub – Mid Richmond Neighbourhood Centre

  • Funding hub operations and staffing
  • Purchase of supplies for community needs
  • Building supplies & trade coordination to make homes liveable
  • Mental health & trauma support

 

Coraki Hub – Mid Richmond Neighbourhood Centre

  • Funding hub operations and staffing
  • Purchase of supplies for community needs
  • Building supplies & trade coordination to make homes liveable
  • Mental health & trauma support

 

Evans Head Hub – Mid Richmond Neighbourhood Centre

  • Funding hub operations and staffing
  • Purchase of supplies for community needs
  • Building supplies & trade coordination to make homes liveable
  • Mental health & trauma support

 

Wyralla Rd Hub

  • Purchase of supplies for community needs
  • Hub rent, staffing & utilities
